Indian Summer!
This morning the temperatures were in the 70's! The grass was full of dew! Walking through the yard my feet were dripping wet and slippin' on my flip flops! Then as I stooped low to take a photo I saw sparkling dew drops on every blade of grass!
These dew drops have a short life...the sun will rise and through Mother Nature's natural process these glistening drops will evaporate quickly as the temperatures today will rise to the mid 90's.
We call this Indian Summer...cool mornings and warm afternoons! Oh so nice!

Front Porch Collage
So quite naturally as the last days of Summer are upon us...well in Texas that can be a whole different season definition...but here is a collage of our 2010 Summer front porch.
Our little porch is surrounded by wood ferns, comfy with chairs, birds nesting in the begonia hanging baskets...all to welcome our friends and family!
I could not ask for more! Hope you enjoy this glimpse into my little piece of the world!

Garden Flowers after a Summer of 100+ Temps!
How did the gardens hold up during our 100+ degree temperatures this Summer?
Well, I've been watering....watering...watering...everything is alive...but boy are my plants are just plain worn out!
Three types of plants have continued to produce small blooms...all the other flowering plants have given up that task a few weeks ago. So I baby them and hope for next year.
Pink Mexican Petunia!
Tried and true Lantana!
Purple Mexican Petunia!
As Fall approaches I'll prepare the gardens for Winter...I'll share my methods later!

An August Cold Front in Texas...Means RAIN!
Soooooo....actually the photos in this post are from yesterday morning...all this popped up after I completed my return post....
I walked outside, heard the rumbling towards the north, looked around and started snapping photos. This all developed in under ten minutes over my little home.
These are the first of MANY raindrops to fall upon our property! The rain was tentative...a few drops here and there...then they increased into big plops of rain...and before I knew it we had RAIN!
I'm talking gully washing, curb high RAIN! Oh so welcome and hopefully we've seen the last of the 107 degree days with a heat index of 110 degrees! Well I can hope!

Can it be true? Summer is almost over?
I sincerely hope everyone has enjoyed this Summer!
I chose to take an extended break from my computer this summer...I hit the off button on my cell phone! Not to worry, I still had the land line home phone so I was not TOTALLY disconnected from the outside world...but I found that I spent quality time with my friends and family...my world slowed down...there were fewer interruptions...therefore less stress...and I enjoyed every precious moment...quietly...peacefully...productively!
So here is a glimpse into my garden this morning...Aesop's fable about the "Grasshopper and the Ant" tickled my imagination so I caught the main characters in photos...
This Grasshopper is chillin' out on the swimming pool float...wherever did he get that idea? Of course he and his buddies have been nibblin' on my Wood Fern up a storm!
These are a "FEW" of the pesky fire ants that definitely fall into the category of "the bane of my existence"...they appear to be very busy...could this be a warning of a COLD Winter?
